Develon to Supply Up to 70 DD130 Dozers to Polish Army in Landmark Defense Contract
Develon, the construction equipment brand of South Korea's HD Hyundai Group, has secured a contract to supply up to 70 DD130 crawler dozers to the Polish Army — a deal that marks the brand's first major military equipment contract in Europe and signals a significant shift in the defense-construction equipment crossover market.
The tender, led by Poland's 3rd Regional Logistics Base, resulted in a firm order for 50 DD130 dozers with an option for an additional 20 units. The contract, valued at approximately 27 billion won (US$17.7 million) for the base quantity, requires all deliveries — including optional units — to be completed by November 2026. MW Rail S.A. submitted the winning bid in collaboration with Glomak Polska, Develon's Polish national distributor.
The machines will support military engineering operations including excavation, ground levelling, earthmoving, terrain preparation, short-distance material pushing, and operations with blades, rippers, towing devices, and other attachments. Performance specifications require the dozers to operate continuously under load for at least 10 hours.
DD130: A Relatively New Player in the Dozer Segment
The DD130 is Develon's largest dozer, powered by a Perkins 1204J four-cylinder diesel engine delivering 117 kW (156.9 hp) gross and 108.9 kW (145.8 hp) net. With an operating weight ranging from 14,000 to 15,300 kg depending on configuration, the 15-ton-class machine packs a maximum drawbar pull of 215.7 kN — competitive for its weight class.
Develon only introduced its dozer range to the European market two years ago, making this contract a rapid and high-profile validation of the platform. The DD130 features a hydrostatic transmission (HST) with dual axial piston pumps and motors, offering infinitely variable travel speeds up to 9 km/h.
Military-Specific Modifications
Meeting Polish Army requirements demanded several engineering adaptations beyond the standard production configuration. Develon modified parts of the frame structure to withstand military-grade operational stress, optimised motor displacement to increase maximum travel speed, and applied defence-colour camouflage paint.
The contract required Develon to prevail against "leading US and European competitors" in the final tender stage, according to the company — a notable achievement for a brand still establishing its dozer credentials in Europe.
"This contract is more than a major sales achievement," a Develon spokesperson said. "It is a clear demonstration of the DD130's performance, quality and Develon's ability to respond quickly and effectively to demanding customer requirements in Europe."
Lim Jung-woo, head of HD Construction Equipment's European operations, added: "This order demonstrates both the quality of our products and our ability to supply customers in the European market. We will continue to strengthen our competitiveness and establish ourselves as a trusted partner across industries."
Strategic Context: European Defence Spending Fuels Equipment Demand
The contract reflects a broader trend of rising European defence budgets and military infrastructure investments. Poland has been one of NATO's most active defence spenders, and the need for military engineering equipment — bulldozers for airfield repair, obstacle clearance, field fortification, and logistics route maintenance — has grown in parallel with combat vehicle procurement.
For Develon, the deal provides a foothold in a procurement segment that extends well beyond construction. Military contracts typically enforce strict quality assurance, supply chain reliability, and aftermarket support standards that can serve as a reference for future public procurement wins.
The programme also requires close cross-functional coordination across Develon's production, engineering, quality, supply chain, sales, and product management teams to meet the November 2026 delivery deadline — a demanding timeline given the custom modifications involved.
What This Means for the Market
The Polish Army contract demonstrates that construction equipment manufacturers can compete effectively in the defence engineering segment traditionally dominated by specialised military vehicle builders. As European nations continue to stockpile engineering assets alongside combat systems, the crossover between civilian construction equipment and military mobility is likely to grow.
Develon's win also underscores the expanding footprint of Korean heavy industries in European defence procurement — following major Polish orders for K2 tanks, K9 howitzers, and FA-50 aircraft from other HD Hyundai and Korean defence firms.
With deliveries scheduled across the next five months, the programme will serve as a practical test of Develon's ability to execute large-scale, customised supply operations in a European defence context.
