Epiroc and SANY Join Forces to Accelerate Electrification in Mining and Infrastructure

Epiroc, the Swedish mining and infrastructure equipment and productivity partner, and SANY Group, one of the world's largest heavy machinery manufacturers, have signed a strategic global partnership agreement that could reshape the pace of electrification in the mining industry.

The agreement, formalised at SANY Industrial Park in Changsha, China, establishes a framework for collaboration across selected areas of mining and infrastructure — combining two distinct technology portfolios in what may be one of the most consequential cross-continental alliances in heavy industry this year.

A Partnership in Two Acts

The collaboration targets two distinct but related verticals: infrastructure and mining.

On the infrastructure side, the partnership centres on integrated equipment-and-tooling packages. Epiroc will contribute its hydraulic breakers, specialty attachments, and ground-engaging tools (GET), while SANY brings its excavator and wheel loader ranges to the table. The goal is to deliver application-ready solutions that remove the guesswork of cross-brand compatibility on jobsites.

In mining, the focus shifts decisively toward electrification and energy resilience. Epiroc will supply electrified mining equipment and charging solutions backed by its global service network, while SANY complements this with electric microgrids and green energy systems. The combined offering is designed to help mine operators reduce diesel dependency and cut emissions without compromising productivity.

The Green Angle That Matters

What sets this partnership apart from run-of-the-mill cross-brand agreements is its deliberate emphasis on low-carbon transformation. Both companies frame the collaboration as a direct response to the mining sector's growing demand for electrified equipment and energy self-sufficiency.

Epiroc brings SEK 62 billion in annual revenue and roughly 19,000 employees to the deal, with deep expertise in equipment automation, electrification, and digitalisation across some 150 countries. SANY, headquartered in Changsha, counters with significant manufacturing scale and a rapidly expanding portfolio of new-energy construction machinery — including electric microgrids that can power operations in off-grid mining environments.

The agreement amounts to a comprehensive framework rather than a one-off project, signalling that both parties intend to build institutional depth in their joint work over time.

Leadership Perspectives

José Manuel Sánchez, President of Epiroc's Tools & Attachments Business Area, said at the signing:

"SANY's innovations in electrification, equipment, and smart manufacturing are truly impressive. Epiroc leads mining and infrastructure applications in the fields of equipment automation, electrification and digitalisation. We look forward to combining our respective technologies and resources to deliver more efficient and sustainable solutions for customers worldwide, creating new value and energy resilience for the industry."

Lihua Tang, Group Director of SANY, added:

"Epiroc is a global leader in mining equipment technology, while SANY has significant advantages in new energy construction machinery and smart manufacturing. This strategic partnership represents a major step forward in our globalisation strategy and will accelerate the transformation of the global mining industry towards low-carbon and intelligent operations."

What It Means for the Industry

For mining operators and infrastructure contractors, the takeaway is clear: integrated, electrified solutions are no longer a niche proposition reserved for early adopters. A Swedish technology leader and a Chinese manufacturing powerhouse are aligning their roadmaps, which should shorten the path from prototype to jobsite for electrified equipment packages.

The partnership also highlights a broader trend: the green shift in heavy industry is increasingly being driven by cross-border collaboration, where European automation expertise and Chinese production muscle combine to create solutions neither could deliver alone at scale.

Epiroc and SANY have not specified a timeline for first joint product launches, but the framework agreement provides room for deep cooperation on both hardware development and go-to-market strategy. The industry will be watching closely.
