Hyundai Takes Aim at UK Rental Market with Next Generation Excavator Lineup at Hillhead 2026

Hillhead, Buxton — Hyundai Construction Equipment has arrived at the UK's largest quarry show with its full Next Generation excavator range, including a new model designed specifically for the British plant hire and rental industry.

When Hillhead opened its gates on 23 June, Hyundai rolled five of its Next Generation crawler excavators onto Stand Z5 alongside a machine that has never been seen in public before — a model the company says it has built around the way UK rental firms actually operate. While Hyundai has withheld the tonnage and designation pending the reveal, the design brief is clear: a machine built for maximum uptime, minimal running costs, and operator accessibility from day one.

The Next Generation Lineup

The Next Generation series, first introduced at Bauma 2025, spans five models from 23 to 40 tonnes:

Model Operating Weight Engine
HX230 23 tonnes DX05 4-cyl twin-turbo
HX260 26 tonnes DX05 4-cyl twin-turbo
HX300 30 tonnes (first UK showing)
HX360 36 tonnes DX08 6-cyl + FEH
HX400 40 tonnes DX08 6-cyl + FEH

All models are powered by Hyundai's own DX engine series — the DX05 and DX08 — which together were named Diesel of the Year 2025. The engines deliver up to 10 percent better fuel economy than the previous A-Series, with the DX05-powered HX230 and HX260 consuming up to 30 percent less AdBlue.

FEH Controls as Standard

Every Next Generation excavator ships with Full Electro-Hydraulic (FEH) controls as standard equipment. The system replaces traditional hydraulic pilot lines with electric signals from joystick to pump, eliminating hydraulic losses and delivering what Hyundai claims is a 22 percent productivity increase. Operators get joystick steering, adjustable spring-tension lever controls, and noticeably smoother operation compared to conventional systems.

Safety and Operator Environment

Hyundai has made safety a headline feature across the range. All models come standard with Smart Around View Monitoring (SAVM) — six cameras providing a fully stitched 360-degree view around the machine — plus a four-corner beacon system and a white-noise buzzer designed to avoid the piercing reverse tone that site workers often disable.

Inside the cab, operators get a redesigned interior with improved ventilation, dual solar sensors and a Discharge Air Temperature sensor for steady climate control, and a 12.8-inch full-HD touchscreen for machine settings and data display. The Comfort Package is standard, and all machines are upgrade-ready for the Intelligent Pack, which adds Lift Assist, Grade Assist, Auto Stop, an Automatic Weighing System, and E-Boundary — an electronic restriction system that keeps the machine within a defined working envelope.

Extended Service Intervals

For rental fleets, maintenance costs are a decisive factor. Hyundai has extended engine oil, oil filter, and fuel filter intervals from 500 to 1,000 hours, and coolant replacement intervals from 2,000 to 6,000 hours. These are tangible savings on the running-cost ledger that rental operators track closely.

Live Demonstrations and Supporting Lineup

Throughout the three-day show, Hyundai Next Generation excavators are working in the quarry face alongside a HA45A 4x4 articulated dump truck (41-tonne payload, two-axle, hydro-gas suspension) and Hyundai wheel loaders. The company is also showing the HX10A Z micro excavator (1.1 tonnes) for the first time in the UK — a zero-tail-swing machine with retractable undercarriage that fits through a 730-millimetre doorway.

With UK dealers from across the Hyundai network present on the stand, the message is clear: Hyundai is positioning its Next Generation range as a complete solution for the rental sector, from micro to 40 tonnes, with in-house engines, electro-hydraulic precision, and a service life built for the ledgers that matter.
