MAN Starts Series Production of Electric Trucks at Kraków Plant

Kraków, Poland — MAN Truck & Bus has officially begun series production of battery-electric trucks at its Kraków plant, with the first MAN eTGL light-duty electric trucks rolling off the line in mid-July 2026. The milestone makes Kraków the German manufacturer's second electrified truck production site, joining Munich where the heavy-duty eTGX and eTGS have been in series production since July 2025.

The production launch is backed by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Polish government, covering investments of approximately €1.2 billion (US$1.38 billion) that extend well into the next decade. The investment is part of MAN's MAN2030+ future programme for its European production network.

Kraków's transformation into a full-scale manufacturing hub

The investment programme transforms Kraków from an assembly hub into a full-scale manufacturing site. Through 2030, MAN will build dedicated body-in-white and paint shop operations, expand cab assembly capacity, and construct new production halls equipped for painted truck body manufacture. Once complete, the plant's production area will nearly double from 130,000 to 270,000 square metres.

"This is about much more than just the truck," said Michael Kobriger, MAN's Executive Board Member for Production and Logistics. "It's about an innovative product and a reliable service offering that provides our customers with optimal support during this transformation."

The expansion significantly increases Kraków's depth of value creation — functions historically concentrated at MAN's primary plants — and lays the groundwork for the next generation of vehicles based on the TRATON Modular System (TMS), the group-wide platform developed across the TRATON Group brands.

A complete electric truck portfolio from 12 to 50 tonnes

The eTGL kicks off production in the 12-tonne class, designed for urban and regional distribution with a usable battery capacity of 160 kWh and a range of up to 310 kilometres. Later this year, the medium-duty MAN eTGM will follow in the 16-tonne segment.

Combined with the heavy-duty eTGX and eTGS already produced in Munich — which can achieve up to 830 kilometres of range with the largest 623 kWh battery configuration — MAN now offers a comprehensive fully electric truck portfolio covering gross vehicle weights from 12 to 50 tonnes. This spans the full spectrum from last-mile urban delivery to long-haul cross-border transport.

The portfolio expansion is timely. MAN recently signed a framework agreement with TIP Group covering up to 1,800 trucks over three years across 18 European countries, signalling growing operator demand for electric alternatives.

Munich proves the concept

The Kraków launch builds on a year of experience from MAN's Munich plant, where electric and diesel trucks have been produced on a single mixed-production line since July 2025. Around 1,300 heavy-series electric trucks have been manufactured there in the first year. More than 5,000 employees have been trained in high-voltage technology as part of the transformation.

"The production of electric and diesel trucks on a single line has proven its worth," Kobriger noted. The flexible setup allows MAN to adjust production to market demand regardless of drivetrain, with current capacity at around 100 trucks per day.

What this means for European fleet operators

For fleet managers and operators across Europe, the Kraków expansion signals that MAN's electric truck programme has moved firmly from pilot to industrial scale. With production capacity at two sites, shorter delivery times and greater model availability are within reach. The combination of the 12-tonne eTGL for urban logistics, the 16-tonne eTGM for regional distribution, and the heavy-duty eTGX/eTGS for long-haul routes means operators can now electrify across their entire fleet from a single manufacturer.

MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp summed up the strategy: "With these investments in Poland, we are further expanding our presence in Europe. Kraków has played an important role in our production network for many years. The expansion into a full-scale manufacturing plant and the start of series production of our electric light-duty truck range position us strongly for the ongoing transformation of the industry."
