PARIS — The European joint venture Rheinmetall Destinus Strike Systems has laid out its program priorities at Eurosatory 2026, placing the accelerated introduction of the Ruta Block 3 deep-strike cruise missile at the top of its agenda. The missile will offer a range exceeding 2,000 kilometers and carry a warhead of up to 250 kilograms.
The Ruta Block 3 is designed for precision strikes against high-value and hardened targets deep in contested territory. It launches from standard ISO containers compatible with vehicle platforms — including Rheinmetall HX trucks — and maritime applications, achieving firing readiness in approximately two minutes.
The joint venture, announced in April 2026, combines Destinus's battle-proven missile technology with Rheinmetall's industrial scale. A Term Sheet is signed and the final shareholders’ agreement is close to conclusion, according to the companies. Rheinmetall holds 51 percent, Destinus 49 percent.
NATO qualification is the stated objective, making the Ruta Block 3 available to all NATO and EU member states.
“We are advancing NATO qualification on an accelerated path, embedded in existing programmes for European defense ministries,” said Roman Köhne, Head of Division Weapon and Ammunition at Rheinmetall. “This allows us to rapidly provide European armed forces with a ready-to-deploy, certified and fully European effector.”
100 percent European value chain. Final assembly, integration and testing will take place at a dedicated facility in Germany. Initial delivery readiness is planned for 2026. Destinus supplies the technological core components of the missiles; Rheinmetall supplies energetic components — warheads and booster rocket motors.
The joint venture’s initial product line comprises three systems: Kryla, a compact, cost-efficient cruise missile with a 50 kg warhead designed for saturation strikes; Ruta Block 2, carrying a 250 kg warhead for high-value and hardened targets; and Ruta Block 3, the deep-strike variant. Both Kryla and Ruta Block 2 are launch-compatible with existing MLRS launchers and standard containers respectively.
“Joint production begins with Kryla and Ruta Block 2 — compact and heavy cruise missiles for mass effects and precise strikes,” the company stated. Destinus CEO Mikhail Kokorich emphasised container-based launch flexibility: “Our systems can be deployed across virtually any land and sea platform and through existing logistics chains — concealed and brought to firing readiness in the shortest time.”
Production at Rheinmetall’s Unterlüß site is expected to begin with Block 1 and Block 2 missiles in 2026–2027, with Block 3 to follow as flight testing and qualification progress. Destinus currently manufactures over 2,000 cruise missile systems per year at its facility in the Netherlands.
