American Rheinmetall Delivers First Lynx XM30 Prototype to U.S. Army

American Rheinmetall has delivered the first of eight Lynx XM30 combat vehicle prototypes to the U.S. Army, the company announced on 1 September, sending its candidate in the Bradley replacement competition into government-led developmental and performance testing.

American Rheinmetall, based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, said the vehicle immediately enters evaluation under the Phase 3/4 Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) contract valued at approximately $764 million. The remaining seven prototypes are scheduled for delivery later this year and will be used for operational unit training, running parallel to the Army's Transformation in Contact (TiC) 2.0 initiative.

The handover follows General Dynamics Land Systems' delivery of its rival XM30 Wolf prototype in late August — both industry teams are competing under the Mechanized Infantry Combat Vehicle (MICV) program to replace the M2 Bradley.

The Lynx XM30 features what the company describes as a first-ever hybrid-electric powertrain in a combat vehicle, designed to optimize power generation and battlefield mobility, alongside a modular design and adaptive open architecture for rapid technology integration over the platform's service life.

"Delivering our first prototype to the Army is an important step as the XM30 Combat Vehicle program enters a more visible phase," said Matt Warnick, CEO of American Rheinmetall. "Team Lynx now has the opportunity to show the Army that we can deliver on the promise of a modern replacement for the Bradley."

American Rheinmetall leads Team Lynx, which includes Textron Systems, Raytheon, L3Harris Technologies, Allison Transmission and Anduril Industries. Prototypes move through a multi-state production pipeline spanning turret fabrication in Plymouth, Michigan, and hull and chassis integration in Slidell, Louisiana, with a joint inspection alongside the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) before government acceptance.
