Built with Liebherr: Tower Cranes Shape the New Miami Skyline

Miami's skyline is undergoing its most dramatic transformation in a generation. Across the Brickell financial district, Edgewater waterfront, Park West, and the burgeoning Miami Worldcenter district, seven major residential high-rise projects are rising — and Liebherr tower cranes are doing the heavy lifting.

From flat-top EC-B models ideal for tight urban sites to high-top EC-H cranes for extreme heights and luffing-jib HC-L variants for cramped airspace, Liebherr has deployed a fleet across some of the most ambitious residential towers ever built in Florida. The common denominator: Morrow Equipment Company, Liebherr's exclusive North American distributor for over 40 years, supplying, erecting, and servicing every crane on these sites.

Seven Projects, One Crane Family

At the top end of the height spectrum, Cipriani Residences Miami at 1420 South Miami Avenue in Brickell is pushing 80 storeys and approximately 287 metres. Two Liebherr EC-B flat-top cranes serve the site, with FAA-approved heights reaching up to 305 metres. When the structure passed 266 metres in April 2026, Cipriani claimed the title of Miami's tallest residential tower — at least temporarily.

Further north in Edgewater, Villa Miami at 710 NE 29th Street is climbing 56 storeys with two 316 EC-H high-top cranes. Hook heights reach approximately 230 metres. The first crane was installed in April 2025, and the structure has now passed the 37th floor.

In the Park West district, the dual-tower E11EVEN Club Hotel & Residences complex uses a 470 EC-B flat-top. The first 65-storey tower topped off in early 2025, and the crane operated from the summit until dismantling began in late 2025. The second tower, known as E11EVEN Beyond, is now rising above the parking podium.

The St. Regis Residences, Miami at 1809 Brickell Avenue combines a 470 EC-B and a 420 EC-H across 50 storeys of ultra-luxury condominiums, with FAA-approved heights around 226 metres. Completion is scheduled for 2027.

Downtown, 46 NE 6th Street brings 58 storeys and 824 residential units, served by one 420 EC-H and one 316 EC-H after a large foundation pour pushed vertical construction underway. The building will reach approximately 175 metres with ground-floor retail and an elevated pool deck on the ninth floor.

At 600 Miami Worldcenter, two 357 HC-L luffing jib cranes handled the 32-storey, 606-residence tower during its ascent through tight airspace constraints. The tower topped off in October 2025, with delivery expected later this year.

Finally, Hamilton House at 640 NE 34th Street in Edgewater reached 38 storeys and approximately 151 metres with its Liebherr crane, topping out in March 2026.

Tower Crane Technology for Urban Density

The crane mix across these seven projects reflects the demands of modern high-rise construction in a dense urban environment. EC-B flat-top cranes feature compact tower heads that allow multiple cranes to operate in close proximity — critical on sites like Cipriani where two cranes must share limited airspace. EC-H high-top models add load-bearing capacity for the tallest structures, while the HC-L luffing jib variants fold their jibs vertically, minimising out-of-service radius on constrained downtown plots.

Miami's combination of hurricane exposure, high humidity, and extreme summer heat places additional demands on equipment reliability — factors Liebherr's Litronic control and monitoring systems are designed to handle.

Morrow Equipment: The Backbone

Morrow Equipment Company has been Liebherr's exclusive distributor in the United States, Canada, and Mexico for more than four decades. With over 320 employees and a fleet that already exceeded 560 cranes, Morrow placed an order for 27 additional Liebherr cranes in May 2022 — including 340 EC-B and 470 EC-B flat-tops, 357 HC-L luffing jibs, and 125 K fast-erecting cranes — during Liebherr USA's first Customer Day event.

A Skyline in Transition

Miami's residential construction boom shows no signs of slowing. As developers push higher into the sky and deeper into tight urban infill sites, the combination of Liebherr's crane engineering and Morrow Equipment's distribution and service network provides the lifting capacity these projects demand. The seven projects covered here represent only a snapshot — with additional Liebherr cranes deployed across other Miami developments, the German manufacturer's contribution to the city's transformation is visible from virtually every vantage point along Biscayne Bay.
