CASE Expands D Series Lineup with Three New 3-Ton Mini Excavators

CASE Construction Equipment has expanded its D Series mini excavator range with the launch of three new 3-ton-class models: the CX30D, CX34D, and CX38D. First previewed at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 in Las Vegas, the trio brings zero-tailswing versatility, operator-first cab design, and expanded attachment compatibility to the compact end of CASE's excavator lineup.

All three machines are powered by a 24.4 hp (18.2 kW) Kubota D1703-M diesel engine and share a zero-tailswing chassis, allowing operators to work flush against walls, foundations, and other obstacles without compromising stability. CASE says a well-balanced undercarriage keeps the machines steady even during digging and material handling in tight quarters — a key requirement for urban renovation, residential construction, and utility work.

Three Models, Three Profiles

While the CX30D, CX34D, and CX38D share a common powertrain and platform, each model targets a slightly different weight class and feature set:

  • CX30D — Operating weight 7,143 lb (3,240 kg), digging depth 8 ft 8 in (2.6 m). The entry point in the trio, suited for light excavation, trenching, and landscaping. Includes an enhanced lighting package for low-light operation.
  • CX34D — Operating weight 7,672 lb (3,480 kg), digging depth approximately 9 ft (2.7 m). The middle model bridges the gap between the CX30D and the top-end CX38D.
  • CX38D — Operating weight 8,620 lb (3,910 kg), digging depth 9 ft 5 in (2.9 m). The flagship of the three, equipped with a long arm, thumb bracket, hydraulic auxiliary flow control, and electronic throttle control with auto idle. Also features the enhanced lighting package and is available with an optional 6-way dozer blade for grading and backfilling.

Operator Experience Takes Center Stage

CASE has clearly prioritized cab comfort and visibility on the D Series. The automotive-style cab comes with ergonomic controls, a suspension seat, and a two-piece roll-up front window on all cab-equipped models — a detail that improves sightlines and makes communication with ground crews easier on active jobsites.

Serviceability is also addressed: the tilting cab and conveniently placed access panels are designed to reduce downtime during daily checks and preventative maintenance.

Attachment Ready

Adaptability was a core design goal. All three models come standard with a hydraulic pin grabber coupler provision, enabling rapid attachment changes. The standard hydraulic setup includes one- and two-way auxiliary hydraulics plus a second two-way auxiliary circuit, covering most digging, trenching, dirt moving, and vegetation management tasks. For more demanding applications, an optional third hydraulic circuit and constant-flow circuit are available, allowing power-hungry attachments such as hydraulic breakers and augers.

The CX38D's optional 6-way dozer blade further extends its capabilities, letting operators switch between excavating and grading without bringing a second machine to the site.

Expanding the D Series Family

The three new 3-ton models join a growing D Series lineup that already includes the CX12D, CX19D, CX42D, CX50D, and CX60D. With the addition of the CX30D, CX34D, and CX38D, CASE now covers the compact excavator segment from 1.2 tonnes up to 6 tonnes with a unified cab design and a shared focus on operator comfort and attachment versatility.

Market Context

The launch comes as demand for compact construction equipment continues its upward trajectory. The global mini excavator market was valued at approximately USD 10.4 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 17.1 billion by 2034, growing at a CAGR of 5.65%, according to Straits Research. Mini excavators are expected to account for 38% of the compact equipment segment in 2026, driven by trenching demand across utility and housing projects.

With zero-tailswing machines becoming the norm in the sub-5-ton class, CASE's D Series refresh positions the brand to compete directly with established compact excavator players such as Kubota, Bobcat, and Deere in a segment where attachment flexibility and operator comfort increasingly drive purchasing decisions.
