Scania brings modular protected cab to MSPO 2026

Scania is presenting its new modular protected cab for defence logistics at MSPO 2026 in Kielce, the first time the cab has been shown to the Central and Eastern European defence market since its world debut at Eurosatory in Paris in June. The official presentation takes place on 8 September at 13:45 at Scania stand 7Z-62.

The cab is built into Scania's standard modular vehicle architecture, which the company says is the key difference from earlier protected offerings: for the first time, defence customers can order a Scania protected cab without migrating to a separate, dedicated vehicle platform. Stefano Fedel, Head of Scania Commercial, said the launch responds to a changing demand picture across Europe.

"Defence logistics and transport resilience are becoming increasingly important for armed forces and societies across Europe and beyond," Fedel said. "With the protected cab, Scania combines protection and operational capability with the modularity, reliability and support systems already proven across our global transport ecosystem."

The cab is available in 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 configurations and carries ballistic and blast protection that can be configured to the operator's mission profile, fully compliant with STANAG 4569 Levels 1 to 3. It supports integration of mission-specific systems, equipment and bodywork, and meets UIC GA railway tunnel profile requirements, which Scania says supports strategic mobility across European rail infrastructure. The design retains the driver environment of Scania's commercial trucks, with the same visibility, ergonomics and controls that crews already know from the civilian fleet.

Sara Forsberg, CTO and Head of Scania R&D, stressed that the protected cab is an extension of the company's industrial system rather than a niche military product. "The new modular protected cab is not a separate platform outside the Scania system. It is developed according to the same principles that define Scania's approach to modularity, uptime and operational efficiency. That gives customers a scalable and adaptable solution with strong long-term support."

The cab is manufactured in Sweden and integrated into Scania's regular production flow, with final assembly taking place alongside other defence truck variants at the company's production facilities. Because the cab shares Scania's common architecture, interfaces and spare-parts base with commercial vehicles, defence customers can rely on the same service and support structures across protected and unprotected fleets. Scania says this reduces training requirements, simplifies fleet management and helps contain lifecycle costs — a recurring concern for armed forces running small volumes of specialised vehicles.

MSPO 2026, the 34th International Defence Industry Exhibition, runs from 8 to 11 September at Targi Kielce and is the largest defence trade fair in Central and Eastern Europe. Scania's presence in Kielce follows a broader push in its defence business: the company has supplied defence vehicles and solutions for more than a century and today delivers trucks, engines and related systems to several NATO countries and allied nations. Alongside the protected cab, Scania's defence portfolio spans logistics trucks from 4x4 to 8x8, power solutions and integrated logistics support.
