USMC Awards Kongsberg $44.3M Modification for ACV-30 PROTECTOR Turret Sustainment
The U.S. Marine Corps has awarded Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace a $44,267,020 firm-fixed-price modification to its ACV-30 remote turret contract, covering additional provisioning spares, engineering change proposals (ECPs) and repair and sustainment work. Announced Aug. 24, 2026, the action brings the total value of the contract to $335,904,707 if all options are exercised.
Issued against contract action M67854-25-C-0023 for the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) Medium Caliber Cannon PROTECTOR Remote Turret 20, the modification funds the procurement of additional Initial Issue Provisioning turret spares, associated ECP work and repair and sustainment processes, and obligates funds for future ECPs and repair/sustainment efforts. Fiscal 2025 Marine Corps procurement reconciliation funds of $44,267,020 are obligated at award and do not expire at the end of the fiscal year.
Work is split between Kongsberg's remote weapon system facility in Johnstown, Pennsylvania (62 percent), and its facility in Kongsberg, Norway (38 percent), with completion expected by Aug. 27, 2030. The Portfolio Acquisition Executive Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia, is the contracting activity.
The award is the latest step in a program that has moved from long-lead items through full-rate production into a sustainment footing. Kongsberg received a full-rate production contract worth up to $330 million in August 2025, with an initial order of about $118 million covering 101 turrets, following a $51 million long-lead items award in November 2024. "KONGSBERG is honoured to support the US Marine Corps by equipping them with increased firepower and capacity," said Eirik Lie, president of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, when the full-rate award was announced. In December 2025, an $80,163,321 modification exercised options for 52 additional full-rate production turrets, raising the contract's potential value to $282,820,227 at that point.
The ACV-30 is the 30mm medium-caliber cannon variant of the ACV family of amphibious combat vehicles designed and built by BAE Systems — one of four variants in the program replacing the Marine Corps' Assault Amphibious Vehicle fleet. The PROTECTOR Remote Turret 20, a stabilized, remotely operated medium-caliber turret, mounts the 30mm Mk44S cannon and keeps the crew under armor. Kongsberg describes the turret as vehicle-agnostic, able to accept armor and a variety of effectors, including anti-tank guided missiles.
Kongsberg has been the sole provider of remote weapon stations and remote turrets to U.S. customers for 20 years, with more than 20,000 systems produced at the Johnstown facility since it opened in 2008. All such systems delivered to U.S. customers are manufactured in Johnstown, drawing on an extensive American supply base. The facility, expanded in recent years to add a dedicated medium-caliber turret production line, also builds the Marine Air Defense Integrated System remote weapon station and the Army's Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station.
With the modification, the Marine Corps is investing in provisioning spares, engineering changes and repair capacity alongside continued production options — a sign that the RT20 line has moved into its sustainment phase as the ACV-30 fleet grows.
