Volvo Group, Daimler Truck and Toyota back coalition to scale hydrogen trucking in Europe

Volvo Group, Daimler Truck, Toyota Motor Corporation, Bosch, Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, TEAL Mobility and MB Energy are joining forces — together with German policymakers — to scale hydrogen-powered heavy-duty transport in Europe, the companies announced on 3 September 2026.

Spanning the transport, energy and industrial sectors, the coalition aims to establish a benchmark for a fully integrated hydrogen mobility ecosystem for heavy-duty transport. At the core of the initiative are customer-oriented refueling infrastructure and competitively priced hydrogen fuel, with the stated goal of a competitive total cost of ownership (TCO) that positions hydrogen as a practical, scalable zero-emission solution alongside battery-electric powertrains.

The partners say coordinated development across the entire value chain is required to reach a fully integrated ecosystem by 2030: commercializing competitive hydrogen trucks, deploying refueling stations along strategic European corridors synchronized with the roll-out of hydrogen truck fleets, and securing reliable access to hydrogen at viable price levels.

The announcement builds on existing cooperation between the truck makers. Daimler Truck and the Volvo Group jointly own the fuel-cell joint venture cellcentric, which Toyota Motor Corporation is set to join as an equal shareholder.

Further details and the full plan will be presented at a CEO-led press event during IAA Transportation in Hannover on 15 September 2026, the companies said.
